InDuna is coming to Auckland and we’re excited. We had a chance to learn more about InDuna and want to share this amazing musician with y’all. We’ll start with an overview and then get into some questions and answers.

New Zealand performer

InDuna is a self-taught artist and producer who infuses his Afro-Dance- Pop sound with flavors from his South African roots. Growing up in the slums of Johannesburg and Limpopo before moving to New Zealand at fourteen, music became his solace and therapeutic outlet.

His diverse musical journey spans Hip-hop, R&B, and Pop, enriched by his African heritage.

InDuna’s achievements include the Young Global Achiever Award at the Prince Trust 2024 and writing the award-winning song “Dreams” for the documentary “Ink and Gold.” His live performances captivate audiences at major festivals and smaller gigs alike.

1) What was your earliest music memory?

I vividly remember walking through a car park and hearing a speaker on a pole playing Brenda Fassie’s Vuli Ndlela. I instantly fell in love with the song. At the time, I didn’t have much access to music, so the melody stayed with me for weeks. It remains one of my most cherished memories.

2) Has music always been a part of your life?

Absolutely. Music has always been woven into the fabric of my life—through cultural celebrations, church, or just everyday moments. It’s been a constant source of inspiration and comfort.

3) Please share your musical journey.

I was born in South Africa and moved to New Zealand as a teenager, and these two places have shaped my sound immensely. As a teen, I taught myself how to produce and write songs, blending Afro-dance-pop with modern styles. Over time, I refined my craft, performed at festivals, and released music that reflects both my heritage and contemporary influences.

4) Was there a moment when you knew music was a passion you wanted to pursue?

For a long time, I worked jobs that didn’t fulfill me while always feeling drawn to music. It wasn’t until I hit a low point—losing work and feeling deeply unhappy—that I asked myself what truly brought me joy. Music was the answer. From that moment on, I decided to fully commit to it.

6) Please share some key/pivotal moments or turning points that have stuck with you.

Receiving The Young Global Achiever Award at The Prince’s Trust last year was a life-changing moment. It validated all the hard work I’ve put into my craft and opened doors to incredible opportunities. Another pivotal moment was seeing my song *Dreams* chart and be featured in a documentary—it was surreal to see my music connect with people on such a big scale.

7) What have been some big highlights for you?

Performing at festivals, having my songs chart in New Zealand, and hearing them played on the radio have been major highlights. Currently, working on my upcoming EP and preparing for a 2025 tour feels like the start of an exciting new chapter in my journey.
